WhereDial is the solution!
The WhereDial connects to your social media accounts via mapme.at and checks your current location, it then turns the dial to read “Home”, “Station” or wherever you happen to be.
WhereDials are available for sale for just $149 (or £99) + postage. If you would like to order one then fill in the form below and once we’ve finalised the details we’ll send you more information.
Hooks into the full range of services supported by mapme.at, including Foursquare and Google Latitude.
Buying a WhereDial means you’re supporting a great open hardware project. We’ll be releasing the designs for the clock and the software that it runs allowing enterprising makers to suggest improvements and extensions.

We’re still learning about how to build, sell and deliver physical hardware. We need to order some parts in large numbers; as such we’re going to wait until we have a minimum of 50 orders before going any further with this. Once we get to 50 orders we’ll send you an invoice for your clock(s) and will build and ship them on receipt of payment. Until you pay the invoice you can change your mind but please only order a WhereDial if you intend to buy it.
We’ll let you know as soon as possible how much postage will cost, the clocks should be fairly light but the power supplies will add some size and weight, we’re still expecting the cost to be reasonable.
We’re expecting to ship the WhereDial pre-built and ready to go, you’ll simply need to plug in a power cable and plug an ethernet cable into your broadband modem or router (you’ll need DHCP enabled, most have this). All configuration will be done via the mapme.at website, we’ll even support you with any problems you have via Get Satisfaction.
This design of the WhereDial was inspired by Brian Wagner’s Laser Cut Clock, thank you to him for his help and support with the project.
Will you allow custom location names, or will all WhereDials bought have the same locations?
For simplicity with this first batch they will all have the same locations. We intend to allow custom dials to be designed soon though. The software will support this so it will simply be a case of ordering a new dial and replacing it.
As I commented I realised you could of course lift the dial off, flip it over, carve/burn/write your own locations on the back, and place it back on the machine. It’s a lot simpler than trying to make your own cog to fit.

Yes we’ll ship internationally, can’t confirm how much shipping will be quite yet. The WhereDial itself should be pretty light, the heaviest bit will be the DC adapter, we’re expecting shipping to be reasonable though.

Hate to bother you again, but would it be possible to ship it without the DC adapter and just buy one here? Or is it a special one?

It’s likely that we’re going to go with requiring a 5V regulated power supply giving at least 1A so it will probably be best to use the one we supply but it’s certainly something we’d be willing to look at. Are you thinking of that mainly to save on postage costs?
Yes, postage is pretty expensive. Also, we have a new tax here on anything valued at over $30–it’s just insane. But if it’s something necessary or hard to get where I am, then I definitely would have you send it. Thanks for the help.
Hey, I just ordered one. I just wanted to let you know that I really want one, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to afford it when the time comes. Can you get the guys over at Universal to sell it at Harry Potter World or whatever it’s called? It’s a great idea.

Hi – just ordered one. I have a couple of questions: one, can the delivery address be different from the invoice address, and two, are there any plans for a WiFi version?
Delivery address being different should be fine, a wifi model is likely to end up prohibitively expensive and be tricky to set up though. Not ruling it out for the future but for now it needs to be wired.
